The Tag 'n Brag Gallery - Photos of our members with great fish
Daran Ryan caught this beautiful Striped Marlin fishing with Glen Booth on Wicked Weasel in 1200 fathoms off Coffs on Sunday, 21 November 2010.
(If you're wondering why there are two tags, one is the usual NSW Fisheries/DPI tag, and the other is for the Billfish Foundation)
Here's Shannon Danby with the 160 kg Blue Marlin he caught fishing from Wayne Steel's Blackfin off the shelf up to the north of Coffs on 28th of November 2010.
It was Christmas Eve on Darkside, and because we're a big game fishing club, we have to call this an uncharacteristic catch by Nic "Lambchop" Edwards, who must have let his marlin lures drift down a bit too far during a slow game fishing day. Anyway, this "Red Marlin" weighed in at 6.4kg, and we probably have to blame Norm Dark (as usual...) for leading this keen young game fisherman astray...
Sashimi Day! Just a one of the best weeks of summer hit Coffs, Rob Lang and Jason Everson found the biggest school of Yellowfin Tuna so far this season. They were getting multiple two and three fish hookups (not that great when you're fishing a 40 foot boat only two up!), and in the end they could only run one lure out the back to keep things under control. The Yellowfin were grabbing the lure as soon as it was dropped in the water at the back of the boat, and in the end, after they'd limited out, Rob had to pull the gear in in order to drive away from the school without hooking any more fish!
February monthly comp day, and everything came together - great weather, perfect pulse of warm water abeam Coffs in the EAC, and Black N Blue in the right place. Two Blue Marlin, one big fish to Jason Everson, and smaller one to Rick O'Ferrall - ask Jason how his back felt after 2 hours on the rod with his 280kg friend!
Glen Booth was out again with Wicked Weasel, and Daran snatched this great Blue Marlin that was so bronzed up, Glen said it looked like a statue!
Matt Kanafa, one of our newer members, took these fantastic Black Marlin photos from a 6m trailer boat down at the Banks recently
The McQuades fish out of Ballina, near the top end of our fishing grounds, so their trailer boat Pheel the Bite is often the first to signal a hot bite coming down the coast. They've had a great month in March, with Tim snagging his first Blue Marlin, and Cathy coming up with a fantastic sailfish on a day when they really only went out for a short run to test a new GPS!
Fishing down south in his local patch Greg was on a mission to satelite tag a Tiger Shark. The Kiama Canyons produces the goods yet again, while I am sure Greg was hoping for a bigger specimen this is a nice healthy 100kg Tiger and the data gained for the pop up tagging program is invaluable in the seach for knowledge on these top of the food chain predators.
